About usThe goal of the University of Michigan Community Outreach Committee is to foster a passion for volunteerism, increase awareness of access-to-care issues, and facilitate group discussions about current events in the dental community.
Our Community Outreach Committee strives to increase oral health awareness in the Ann Arbor area. We are committed to educating the local community of the importance of dental health care. For the past 3 years, we have organized Educational Oral Health Awareness Days at local schools, daycares, and food pantries. At these events, our pre-dental members taught children and adults about preventative oral health care topics including how to brush your teeth, what to expect at the dentist, and how to maintain a proper diet for a healthy smile. In the future, we hope to become a resource for a population of all ages and backgrounds. We are also working to bring awareness to pre-dental members about current issues related to the dental field through discussion meetings. Past topics of discussion have included Water Fluoridation, Mid-level Providers, Dental Tourism, Dental Care in the ER, and Infection Control in Dental Offices. It is our goal to bring about awareness of oral health issues to prepare our members for a future in dentistry! |
